Movie Nights, Scavenger Hunt added to Hammonton Rotary Corn Maze for 2018

The Hammonton Rotary Club’s second annual Corn Maze fundraiser promises to be bigger and better in 2018, with Movie Nights, a Touch a Tractor event, and a scavenger hunt among several new features being added to the kid-friendly fall attraction.

Spread out over 3 acres at the corner of Oak and Union roads in Hammonton, NJ, the maze was created using more than 140,000 corn plants.

“The maze spells the word, ‘ROTARY’ along with about a dozen other dead ends, twists, and turns,” said Don DeFiccio, co-chairman of the project for the Hammonton Rotary Club. “It’s larger and we are trying to have something different every week.”

It opens at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, with the final date scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 27. Admission is $5 per person; children 3 and under are admitted free. Tickets are available at the gate.

Special dates to remember include:

Oct. 5 – Movie Night, “Goonies” (7 p.m. show)

Oct 6 – Food Trucks

Oct 13 – Touch a Tractor

Oct 20 – Scavenger Hunt, face and pumpkin painting. Patrons are encouraged to show up in costume.

Oct 27- Movie Night, “Nightmare Before Christmas” (7 p.m. show). Patrons are advised to bring beach chairs for movie nights.

You can spend as little or as much time as you want to explore the maze’s many nooks and crannies. How long it takes depends on the individual.

“It depends on your puzzle skills and sense of direction,” DeFiccio said.

There will be a refreshment stand selling hot chocolate, hot apple cider and other snacks, staffed by volunteers from the Hammonton Rotary Club, and the Interact Clubs from Hammonton and St. Joseph high schools. There will also be plenty of free parking available on site. The maze and parking lot are well lit for the safety of guests. Portable toilets are provided.

Proceeds benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Hammonton youth sports programs and families in need. This year the club is helping a local family renovate its home to make it more accessible for their special needs daughter. The club will also be collecting donations in support of military families and the Ronald McDonald House.

Official maze dates and hours are:

Friday, Oct 5, 5-10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct 6, 12:30-10 p.m.

Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 and 13, 5-10 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 19, 5-10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 20, 4-10 p.m.

For the second year in a row, Judee DeFiccio of Pineland Farms provided the property, corn seed, fertilizer, irrigation, and equipment to plant and care for the field. The field was planted by Don DeFiccio on July 7. Rotary Club members spent two days laying out the maze and cutting the paths.

This year’s maze was designed by Rotarian Mike Hitman. It’s co-chaired by Rotarians Don DeFiccio, Mike Hitman, Jenifer Repsher, and Eric Guggenheim.
